Dear Parents/Families:
I hope you survived the snowstorm on Friday night/Saturday. It sure was a good dump of snow, great news for outdoor enthusiasts for skiing and snowshoeing.
Here are few pieces of important information for the next few weeks of school. (There’s more to come but I have snow brain at the moment!)
KinderStart # 1
Our first KinderStart session is set for this coming Friday, January 27, 2023. This means that classes will be cancelled for our current kindergarten learners. (Our remaining three sessions are scheduled for February 24, March 31, and April 28.)
Valentine’s Assembly
Love is in the air! Our grade one learners are very excited to be hosting our Valentine’s assembly this year. It gets underway at 1:30pm (doors open at 1:15pm) on Tuesday, February 14, 2023. Family and friends of our grade one learners are warmly invited to attend.
Pounce’s Birthday/Pink Shirt Day
We will celebrate Pounce’s birthday and Pink Shirt Day on February 22, 2023 with a special breakfast by our Kids Eat Smart Breakfast Club. We encourage all of our learners and their families to wear a pink shirt on this day to show our stand against bullying. As in previous years, we will not be taking orders for pink shirts as we don’t believe in making corporations richer on the backs of children who participate in these kinds of events. Please don’t go out and buy a new shirt – wearing one you already have on hand or a wearing a shirt that has pink in it will more than suffice.
Skating at Jack Byrne Arena
The Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s will be sponsoring free skating sessions at the Jack Byrne Arena during the week of February 20-24 (further details to follow). We thank the recreation department at the town office for including us once again in this highly anticipated activity each winter.
School Council
We have three vacancies for parent representatives on our School Council. If this is something that interests you, please send me an e-mail. An election, if necessary, will be held sometime next week. Expressions of interest should be e-mailed by the close of school on January 27, 2023.
