Pink Shirt Day/Pounce’s Birthday
Wednesday, February 26, 2020 is Pink Shirt Day here at Beachy Cove. We will celebrate this day in concert with Pounce’s birthday (our school mascot).

Instead of purchasing new pink shirts for this day, we are encouraging everyone to wear something pink – it could be a shirt, pants, socks, or an accessory.  We do a lot of work each day to teach respect for self, others, learning, and the environment so there is really no need for families to go out and purchase something new for this day.

Our Kids Eat Smart Breakfast Club will be providing a special breakfast on this day which will consist of sausages, Eggo waffles, blueberries, whipped cream and birthday sprinkles. (Thank you, KESBC Volunteers! That’s one smokin’ menu!)

School Safe Cupcakes
As part of Pounce’s birthday celebrations, we will be providing “school safe” cupcakes for each of our learners.  Please click here if you would like to learn about potential allergens and other nutritional information. Please let us know if you have questions or concerns.

Norovirus/Stomach Flu
As you might expect at this time of the year, Norovirus (stomach flu) is making its way around our school and the wider community.  We have consulted with Eastern Health and their staff have provided us with this link to an important resource for families.  Please note that Eastern Health recommends keeping children home for 48 hours after the last symptom of the stomach flu.

Skating Sessions
We extend our thanks and appreciation to the Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s for sponsoring our skating sessions again this year.  As you can appreciate, this is a major undertaking for our town given that they rent the arena for four mornings and provide bus transportation for every one of our 550 learners.  To pass along your own note of thanks, please click here to send a note to the town’s recreation department.

Professional Development Day
Our fourth professional development day is set for Friday, March 6, 2020.  Classes will be cancelled for all learners on this day.

School Development Surveys
School development surveys are conducted annually to gather feedback from students, staff, and parents/guardians to inform the school development process.  The survey results will be provided to our school and used with other data to help us identify our strengths and challenges.  We will then create and implement a plan to build on our successes and address our areas of challenge.

The survey is anonymous, whcih means that we cannot connect your survey responses to you.  We encourage everyone to participate so that we have the most accurate representation of family perceptions of our school.

The family will be available until March 20, 2020. You can access the survey by clicking here.

Parent-Teacher Interviews
Our next round of parent-teacher interviews is set for Thursday, March 26, 2020.  Further details will follow once OPTIS is configured for term III. We will send out a note once it is set up for term II appointments.

50/50 Lottery
Sales of our 50/50 lottery tickets are going really well and we thank you for your support.  All proceeds from this lottery will go to our own Kids Eat Smart Breakfast Club.

Menu Additions
Please note that roasted baby potatoes have been added to our cafeteria menu as well as the Caesar Salad.  They are on the online ordering system and on the menu on our website (beachycove.ca).
