Thanks for your Help
Thank you so much for all of your kind offers to help us get our six bookshelves out to the painter.  In the end, our ever supportive Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s came forward and as I type this newsletter, our shelves are on their way.  Look for pictures of their new and vibrant colours in the coming weeks.

Elf on the Shelf
We kindly ask that you keep your “Elf” of the “Shelf” variety at home during the time leading up to Christmas.  As you might appreciate, these little creatures represent an incredible distraction for our young learners and they cause issues when others “touch” them.  We also run into issues when they go missing.  Consequently, we have come to the conclusion that these are best left at home.  Thank you for your cooperation in adhering to this expectation.

BCE Night at Chapters
Our annual “BCE Night at Chapters” is set for next Wednesday night at Chapters on Kenmount Road, starting at 7:00pm.  A portion (20%) of all purchases identified as being “for Beachy Cove” will come back to us in the form of a gift card that we will use to source print resources for our library learning commons.  A collection of books will be displayed that you may choose from to purchase as a donation to our collection.

This event has always been very well attended by our school community.  So, please come on along and grab a coffee or tea from Starbucks and do a little Christmas shopping all the while helping our literacy initiatives.

Late Arrivals
We have an issue with late arrivals at our school and we’d like your cooperation in helping us handle it.  Our instructional day commences at 8:30am each day.  It’s our “wheels up” moment as we set out to take advantage of our full five hours of teaching/learning time; however, we are seeing way too many of our learners arriving late for class each day.  Learners who consistently arrive late are stressed about being late as they have to interrupt the class which is already in session.  We don’t typically arrive at medical or other appointments late like that and we’re merely asking that we are afforded the same courtesy.  Moreover, just think of the messaging that we are sending to our young impressionable learners when they arrive late each day.  It will serve them better in the future if they understand that being on time is a tremendously valuable life skill.  (And, when our learners are here on time, they can take advantage of our Kids Eat Smart Breakfast Club!)

Cookies and Hot Chocolate with Santa
Our Kids Eat Smart Breakfast Club is offering “Cookies and Hot Chocolate with Santa” on Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 1:00pm-4:00pm.  Order forms for tickets were distributed to our learners earlier this week.  If you would like to purchase tickets, please complete the form and send it back to school with your child.  There will be a 50/50 draw at the event; however, you will need to be there to purchase tickets as these are not being sold prior to the event.  (You don’t have to be there to win, but you have to be there to purchase tickets!).

While this event is happening in our gym, a giant bake sale will be held in our school’s cafeteria.  Please note that there is no admission fee for the bake sale if you would like to take in this particular event.

Christmas Concert Tickets
Tickets for our two Christmas concerts go on sale this coming Monday, November 26, 2018.  Each kindergarten learner can purchase four tickets to their concert which is set for Friday, December 14, 2018 at 1:00pm; each learner in grades one and three can purchase two tickets for their concert which is set for Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at 1:00pm.  All tickets cost $5.00.  If you wish to purchase tickets, please place your money in an envelope and send it along to your child’s teacher; tickets will then be sent home to you via your child’s agenda pouch.  Anyone requiring additional tickets should check with us on the morning of the concerts.

Please note that our doors will open at 12:30pm on concert days.

To facilitate our parent-teacher interviews, school will close at 11:00am on this day.
