Breakfast Club Bake Sale
Please join our Breakfast Club on Monday, November 5, 2018 from 6:00pm-7:30pm at Guy Fawkes Night as we host the bake sale at the Town Recreation Centre following the Bonfire. Don’t forget to bring your money…you will want to enjoy these tasty treats!!!  All funds raised in this project go towards our Breakfast Club.

Library Learning Commons Volunteers
We have more than 30 volunteers on the list but we have a core group of about 15 that help out on a regular basis.  They have been helping with circulation, cataloguing, and re-shelving of books (overall helping to keep the place running and tidy).  There was an unbelievable amount of help during our recent book fair.  We were amazed at how many came in on more than one occasion to lend a hand – setting up and taking down the fair, selling, and helping children find what they were looking for.  We have also had a number of the volunteers helping out in the lab – especially with the little ones learning to login and finding the letters of their usernames, etc.  We would never be able to do all that we do in the LLC without these valuable volunteers.

Scholastic Book Fair
Thank you for your very kind support of our first Scholastic Book Fair last week. The results are in and everything is tallied up.  As a result of your tremendous support, we received $1500 worth of books for our LLC collection and $2300 in cash to supplement the resources required for our LLC programming this year.   Now, that’s something to celebrate!

50/50 Lottery
Thank you for your kind support of our second 50/50 lottery.  Please note that tickets (sold and unsold) must be back at the school by Wednesday, November 7, 2018 so that we can have everything prepared for the big drawing on Thursday, November 8, 2018.  All proceeds from this lottery will support our literacy and technology initiatives.

As you are already aware, we had planned on having a third 50/50 lottery before Christmas; however, in recognition of all of the competing fundraising demands that our families are facing, we have decided to cancel it for now.  We may revisit our third draw later in the winter.

Jersey Day
We are excited to announce that staff from the Department of Recreation at the Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s will be with us this coming Friday, November 2, 2018 to celebrate National Jersey Day.  We invite our learners and our staff to wear a favourite team jersey or T-shirt on this day to highlight the importance of sport in our growth and development.

If your child doesn’t have a team T-shirt or jersey, a simple T-shirt will do – we hold NO expectation that parents incur any expenses in this endeavour.

Kids Eat Smart Breakfast Club
While I always thank them on behalf of our very enthusiastic learners, I thought I would use this opportunity to publicly acknowledge and thank our Kids Eat Smart Breakfast Club volunteers for their excellent work in providing a nutritious breakfast for our learners every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  These volunteers go above and beyond in their efforts to create menus that are nutritionally sound and in sourcing the best food deals on the northeast Avalon so they can make their fundraising dollars go as far as possible.  They spend countless hours prepping the food and serving it each morning – all in an effort to give our learners the best possible opportunities for learning.  They are providing an invaluable service to our school community and we thank them very much for their great work.

Remembrance Day Assembly
Parents and families of our grade four learners are warmly welcomed to attend our annual Remembrance Day assembly on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 1:30pm.

Our doors will open to parents and families at 1:10pm; we cannot have long lines in our school as we are still very much an active place of teaching and learning at that time.

School Closure
Please remember that we are closed on Friday, November 9, 2018 and Monday, November12, 2018 in observance of Remembrance Day.

Ingredient Lists
If you are curious about the ingredient lists for items on the menu at our cafeteria, please send an e-mail to one of their office staff, Kim Brushett or Kayla Coles.  Kim and Kayla would be more than happy to work with you to allay any fears over potential allergens that might appear in their ingredient lists.
