Date Changes
Please note the change in date for three school events this year:
Jersey Day – originally scheduled for Friday, November 16, 2018 has been rescheduled to Friday, November 2, 2018;
Kindergarten Christmas Concert – originally scheduled for Thursday, December 13, 2018 has been rescheduled to Friday, December 14, 2018; and,
Kindergarten Celebration – originally scheduled for Tuesday, June 25, 2019 has been rescheduled to Monday, June 17, 2019.
Please note these date changes in your family calendar.
Hallowe’en Parties
We will celebrate Hallowe’en on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 during the last hour of the school day.
As you begin the annual process of sourcing costumes, please bear in mind that we cannot permit costumes of a violent or sexual nature in our school and any props should be small, safe, unobtrusive and not represent violence (i.e., guns, etc.).
We are not in a position to accept class sets of cakes, cupcakes, cookies, loot bags, treat bags, etc. at our Hallowe’en Parties; we spend far too much time passing them out and they cause a tremendous mess for our cleaning staff. And, most importantly, we can never be too careful with allergens – far better to be safe than sorry.
Scholastic Book Fair
Our first Scholastic Book Fair is set for next week, October 22-26, 2018. Look for class specific information from your child’s teacher.
Centre Stage
One of our parents, Denielle Hann, hosts Centre Stage for Young Musicians at Fionn MacCool’s on Kenmount Road every Sunday. It’s done in conjunction with Coast 101.1FM and O’Briens Music Store. This isn’t a competition – there is no judging. This is a unique opportunity for young musicians to perform on a real stage for a live audience. There is a weekly prize of $25 Fionns Restaurant Gift Card and there is a grand prize of $750 donated by O’Briens Music which will be drawn for at the end of the season in December. This is open to all youth 18 years of age and under.

When: Sundays from 2-4pm
Who: musicians of all levels, 18years of age and under
School Closure
Our staff will be participating in a district close-out on Tuesday, October 30, 2018; consequently, school will be closed on this day.
50/50 Lottery & Kids Eat Smart Foundation
Thank you for your very kind support of our ongoing 50/50 lottery. The proceeds from the first lottery ($5036.50) went directly to our KES Breakfast Club. Congratulations to Carolyn Newhook who was the lucky winner of the same amount in our first draw.
Tickets for our second round will be distributed shortly. The date for our second draw is Thursday, November 8, 2018 so tickets and money must be returned to the school by Wednesday, November 7, 2018. Proceeds from this and our third and final draw will fund our technology and literacy projects.
Lockdown & Fire Drills
You will have heard by now that we have held fire drills and lockdown drills this week. This is a part of our annual safety program here at Beachy Cove.
A fire drill is just that – an exercise where we practice a safe and orderly exit from the building in the event of a fire.
A lockdown drill is a practice situation where our learners are taught how to “get small and stay small” in their locked classrooms in the event of an armed intruder.
Thanksgiving Food Drive
Thank you so much for your kind and generous contributions to our annual food drive in support of the Community Food Sharing Association. They issued the call and you responded and for that we are truly grateful.
