Happy New Year!
On behalf of all of us who work here at Beachy Cove, please accept our best wishes for a wonderful, happy and healthy 2019.  This school year seems to be flying by at a more rapid pace than any other for me in my career; I simply cannot believe that we are already nearing the halfway mark in our 2018-2019 school year.  Thank you for your unwavering support thus far and we sincerely hope that the remaining time we have in this school year will be productive and enjoyable for our learners and for you.

Delayed Openings: Cafeteria
Please be reminded that our cafeteria cannot provide service on days when we have a delayed opening.  The cafeteria staff would not be able to prepare lunches for our school in one hour and forty-five minutes. Consequently, on delayed opening days, please remember to pack a lunch for your child(ren).

Can you help us out?
As you know we are redesigning our library learning commons this year.  We are at a point now where we have a small room off our LLC which will be used as a leisure reading room for our learners.  We would like to equip it with some basic furniture to make the space more attractive and comfortable.

Specifically, we are looking for:  (a) small side/end table; (b) a table lamp; (c) a floor lamp; (d) a small armchair; (e) small love seat; and, (f) bean bag chairs.

If you can help us out, please snap a picture and send it to our Teacher Librarian, Roxanne Penney or Sara Toope; they will reply to let you know if it’s suitable for our space.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Kids Eat Smart Breakfast Club – Help Wanted
Our Kids Eat Smart Breakfast Club is looking for volunteers to assist with the tremendous responsibilities of our club operations.  Specifically, they are looking for someone to coordinate the shopping for the breakfast foods.  The coordinator will also need assistance in actually going to the stores and supermarkets to purchase the food (cost of food and supplies reimbursed by our Breakfast Club).

If you can help out in any way, please send an email to our Breakfast Club Coordinator, Cheri Butler.  It would be a shame for us to have to scale back breakfast club operations due to the lack of volunteer services.

Skating Sessions at Jack Byrne Arena
The Town of Portugal Cove-St. Phillip’s is once again sponsoring skating sessions for our learners at the Jack Byrne Arena in Torbay.  These are scheduled for February 12-14, 2018.  There is no charge for this event as the Town is covering all costs including transportation.

Further details will come out next week; however, for now, it is important to know that all skaters will require an appropriate helmet for skating (i.e., bicycle helmets are NOT permitted).

We certainly appreciate the kind support of our school by the Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s.

Good Bye and Welcome!
On behalf of Mrs. Cobb’s grade two class, we extend our thanks and appreciation to Britany Drover-Compton for her tremendously valuable work with us a teacher intern.  She enjoyed a very positive relationship with the learners in Mrs. Cobb’s class and their families.  We wish her well in her future endeavours.

We are thrilled to welcome Mme Jane Garreffa as a teacher intern in Mme Morris’s kindergarten class for our winter semester.  Mme Garreffa will be with us for the next twelve weeks as she nears the end of her university degree and preparation to become a teacher.  We are really looking forward to working and learning with Mme Garreffa and we wish her well in her internship.

We also acknowledge Mrs. Cobb and Mme Morris for their good work with our teacher interns.

KinderStart/Kindergarten School Closure
Classes will be cancelled for our current kindergarten learners on Friday, January 18, 2018 because of our KinderStart program.

If you know of a child in our community who is beginning kindergarten with us in September, please ensure that they are aware of our KinderStart program (they can call or e-mail us with any questions).  Further details can be found on www.beachycove.ca under the KinderStart tab.

Environmental Agency
Our school’s recent initiative to recycle milk cartons is going very well.  We extend big thanks to our school community volunteers who take the bags from our shed to their curbside recycling.  We really appreciate these efforts to go that extra mile to keep hundreds of milk cartons a week out of the landfill.  For anyone interested and willing to help, the bags of milk cartons are placed in our shed.  If you are ever in a position to peek in and grab a bag or two to put on your curb with your next recycling pick up, it iwould be greatly appreciated.
