Hi everyone,
Our School Council has begun meeting again following the Christmas break and are actively working to ensure the BCE school community is supportive, inclusive and full of school spirit.
On the school spirit point, Teacher/ Staff Appreciation week is coming up during the week of February 11-17, 2024. We know how much the children enjoy giving back to those who help them each day and we were hoping to keep that tradition going again this year.
We are asking families who feel comfortable in doing so, to send along a donation in a baggie/envelope of $2.00 per family (not per child) and we will be using those funds to spread some joy during appreciation week. We will be acquiring special treats, some cozy lunches, and asking students to make crafts to show the staff just how valued they are.
If you are in a position to send along a donation, please send it to your child’s teacher by Monday, February 5, 2024 marked “staff appreciation.” Please don’t feel any obligation, every child will be included in the messages of thanks and all surprises will be listed as from each and every child of the school regardless of monetary contribution.

Cafeteria Service
Cafeteria service for this coming Friday, February 2, 2024 has been cancelled. (Might I suggest Vienna Sausage tacos instead? Bolongna poutine with shredded salt beef?)
Skating
The Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s is sponsoring skating sessions for us once again this year (see schedule in previous e-mail).
If lack of skates/helmet is a barrier to your child’s participation, please send an e-mail (including sizing information) to Miranda Gosse. The Town will have a very limited access to skates and helmets so we are kindly asking that you exhaust all efforts before indicating a need to have them supplied.
Valentine’s Day Assembly
Our grade one learners are excited to host our Valentine’s Assembly on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. The event gets underway at 1:30pm and our grade one families are warmly welcomed to attend.
School Closures
School will be closed on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 and Friday, February 23, 2024 for professional development. Classes will be cancelled on February 22, 2024 for our current Kindergarten learners because of our second KinderStart session.
KinderGrad Photos
KinderGrad photos will be captured on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 from 3:30pm-8:00pm. A detailed schedule will be provided closer to that time.
Pink Shirt Day
Please mark your calendars for February 28, 2024 as we mark our annual Pink Shirt Day and Pounce’s birthday celebration. We encourage everyone to wear a pink shirt or a shirt with pink on it (or even a reddish shirt); please do not go out and buy a new pink shirt for this event. We don’t want to be making corporations richer on the backs of little children who are trying their best to raise awareness of bullying, so any pink will do.
