Acts of Kindness Week, February 26-March 2, 2018

Acts of Kindness Week at

L’école élémentaire Beachy Cove Elementary School

We have designated February 26-March 2, 2018 as Acts of Kindness Week with various activities scheduled for each day as reflected in the details below.

Monday, February 26, 2018

Kindergarten learners are invited to bring along a small contribution to our local SPCA which could include toys or food for pets.  They will also accept old towels and blankets and detergent.

Our kindness challenge for all of our learners today will be the use of good manners including saying “please” and “thank you” in all of our interactions.

Learners will be given a special hand cut-out when they are observed being kind to one another.  At the end of the week, all of the hands will be brought together to create a “Kindness Tree” in our corridor

Our  learners in grades three and four will engage in “secret missions” on this day whereby they will “secretly” do something nice for someone else.

Tuesday, February 27, 2018

Grade one learners are invited to bring along a small contribution to Iris Kirby House which could include soap, body wash, feminine hygiene products, face cloths, cake mixes, etc.

Our kindness challenge for all of our learners today will be to show their respect for Mr. King, Mr. Wells, and Mrs. Oliver (our cleaning team) by cleaning up after themselves very well.

Our learners in kindergarten and in grade one will make placemats for clients of The Gathering Place in St. John’s.

Pink shirts will be distributed to all of our learners today for them to wear to school on Wednesday, February 28, 2018.

Wednesday, February 28, 2018

Grade two learners are invited to bring along a non-perishable food item in support of our local food bank.

Our kindness challenge today is for our learners to help out a classmate whenever someone might need it.

While wearing their pink shirts, all of our learners will participate in assemblies with Jessica Webb, one of our school district’s program itinerants for Safe, Caring, and Inclusive Schools.

All of our classes will play the “Warm & Fuzzy” game with their teachers.

Learners in kindergarten and grade one will draw pictures for someone at home showing them why they love them and leave it on their pillows.

Thursday, March 1, 2018

Our learners in grade three are invited to bring along a contribution for The Gathering Place.  Items might include adult socks, mittens, or even $1.  Please note that a contribution of $1 provides a breakfast for a client.

Our kindness challenge for today is to show respect through good listening.

Friday, March 2, 2018

Our learners in grade four are invited to contribute to the Thrive Community Network. They would appreciate small toiletry items like shampoos, body wash, deodorant, etc.  They will also accept gently used winter boots.

Today has been designated as “Cool Day” at Beachy Cove and all of our learners and staff are invited to wear cool summer outfits.  All classes will share their own fresh pineapple on this day to invoke the sunshine of the tropics.

“Be Cool” modules will be covered in class.  Grade one classes will learn about anger/self; grade two classes will learn how to handle criticism; grade three classes will learn about the effects of teasing; and, our grade four classes will be engaged in learning about criticism.
